Episode 1 – Licensed Dog Care Professionals
Marianne Butler from Dog Care Professionals UK talks about the challenges of licensing, an excited new support service for licensed carers, starting DCPUK and plans in store for its future, last chance rehoming, agility and fishnets.
As a licenced homeboarder established in January 2017 and a dog owner who does agility with my dog I was a able to relate to alot of things mentioned by Marianne. Especially the realisation that many people’s dogs lack alot of basic training such as the jumping up etc. The jumping up can literally be stopped within an hour.
With regards to different councils applying the rules inconsistently across the nation, living on the border of 4 different local authorities and walking in 8 different council areas all within an 8 mile radius of where I live, the headache and injustice caused by these inconsistencies is more noticeable I find and impacts businesses more so I find.
The whole idea of being regulated seems to make alot of sense but the way the boarding licence has been consulted and applied and lack of enforcement really makes a mockery of those who want to do things professionally. Expecting homeboarders to have this level 3 qualification, for example as an optional higher standard when licenced dog breeders do not need to show any evidence of knowledge of the breed or cross breed they are breeding or dog trainers not needing any form of licencing OR qualification or experience in my mind is contradictory to animal welfare priorities.
I look forward to more topics being discussed such as enforcement, how are councils doing this or not as the case may well be across the nation.
A question of discussion that may be interesting but tricky to research is why are good homeboarders choosing not to be licenced across the nation?
